Crossing the Tasman Sea is one of the most common offshore yacht delivery routes in the South Pacific, but it’s also one of the least forgiving. Every year Yacht Delivery Solutions completes deliveries between Australia and New Zealand for private owners, brokers, manufacturers and buyers, relocating everything from production cruising yachts and performance racers to large catamarans and motor yachts.

Unlike coastal deliveries, a Trans-Tasman passage demands genuine offshore experience. The route is influenced by fast-moving low-pressure systems, strong westerlies and a sea state that can change dramatically within a relatively short period. Success isn’t about leaving on a particular date—it’s about selecting the right weather window, monitoring conditions continuously and making sensible decisions throughout the voyage.

We’ve also completed the passage in the opposite direction, relocating yachts from New Zealand to Australia’s east coast for cruising seasons, sales and owner relocations.

Many of our deliveries involve owners who have purchased a yacht overseas and simply need it professionally relocated. Others are preparing for an extended Pacific cruise and want the yacht positioned in New Zealand before continuing to Fiji, Tonga or French Polynesia. We also work with manufacturers, brokers and repeat owners who rely on us to move valuable yachts safely between the two countries.

Preparation is a major part of every Tasman crossing. Before departure we inspect the yacht, review maintenance items, confirm the vessel is properly equipped for offshore work and prepare a routing strategy based on the latest weather information. During the passage we continually monitor weather systems, adjusting our plan where necessary to protect both the yacht and the crew.
